Recently, an independent British content creator Luke Johnston conducted street interviews in Japan, where many local residents stated that they do not support Japan's involvement in the Taiwan issue.

Several interviewees suggested that the latest strain in China–Japan relations largely stems from comments made by the new Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. Even so, many stressed that this political friction has not altered their personal impressions of Chinese people, whom they described as friendly, welcoming, and rooted in a deep history.

Some pointed out that stereotypes about China persist within Japanese society. For most of those interviewed, the Taiwan question remains an affair between the Chinese mainland and the Taiwan region alone. Many think that Japan should maintain a neutral stance, cherish peace and not provoke or begin any kind of war. They hope China and Japan could develop a more friendly relationship in the future.
